THE COMPACT B2
The B2 is the primary bass cabinet used to complete a Compact Series System. The B2 complements the sonic character of our Compact F6 and F8 cabinets perfectly, providing added low frequency extension with a precise definition and control rarely found in today’s industry of mass produced, under engineered and poorly constructed “Boxes”. When combined with the F6 or F8 as a system, the Compact B2 punches well above its weight, outperforming many far larger “high end” solutions. The B2 can produce a continues output of up to 129db and a maximum output of up to132db (ground stacked). Combine this with its extremely low distortion and extended flat (-3db) frequency response of 37-220Hz, a useable response down to 33Hz (-10db) and you have a true performer!
The Compact B2 is design around a state of the art, superior quality 15” drive unit that is mounted into a carefully designed and perfectly tuned direct radiating cabinet. This 15” drive unit has a highly advanced, high power; high excursion neodymium motor system that shows excellent control at all input levels. This controls a strong yet light carbon fibre loaded cone that has excellent damping and very little bell mode resonance. This excellent resonant behaviour is partly due to an advanced water repellent coating that makes the Compact B2 suitable for use in even the most severe conditions.
The acoustic design of the B2 was carefully considered with a great deal of work going into creating an extremely linear, low loss port design that exhibits an almost true laminar Flow. This technique drastically lowers the level of 2nd and 3rd harmonic distortions created due to non linearity’s (turbulences) within the port section. This is critical when trying to achieve a natural reproduction as 2nd and third harmonic distortions from the bass range will fall into the low mid range of 100-400Hz. In our studies we have found this (often overlooked) frequency range critical for good vocal intelligibility.
All Compact Series cabinets are designed to be driven by our CSR (Compact System Rack). This provides a total 4kw/rms of clean power to the system. The CSR is a fully optimized amplifier and processing network that has all signal and power distribution pre installed. This provides a reliable, user friendly “plug and play” solution. The CSR can be used in conjunction with the CMR™ (Computer Monitoring Rack), to provide wireless, real time acoustic analysis of the venue, and full hard ware monitoring of all system parameters. Up to eight individual F6/F8 Cabinets can run as up to four separately controlled zones, or a system comprising up to 4xF6/F8 and 2xB1/B2 can be used as a main FOH system.
Like all Secrets Of Sound products the B2 is designed to be used in the most severe environmental conditions and can even be supplied with full IP rated electrical connections ensuring safe external installation.
